Archway Theatre's Edgy Adaptation of FAUSTUS To Be Staged In Woodbury University Library
"Lust, Greed, Wrath and the other Seven Deadly Sins are as prominent as Mephistophilis himself in Archway Theatre's adaptation of Christopher Marlowe's "Faustus" to be performed as a site-specific immersive production inside the Woodbury University Library June 29 through July 14. Performances are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $30.
Adapted and directed by Archway artistic director Steven Sabel, the production remains set in 16th century Europe, but follows a "more modern structure in its presentation of the story," said Sabel. Much of the script also remains in verse, he said."

Why this? You can’t beat Shakespeare’s contemporary Marlowe for ambitious, overreaching protagonists and their gory, detailed, Elizabethan comeuppances. After making his infamous bargain with Mephistopheles, Marlowe has to contend with the seven deadly sins, here embodied by seven actresses. Director Steven Sabel teases, “Our production is not for the faint of heart. … Once the Seven Deadly Sins are unleashed, things get very real, very fast.”

"We all know the story. Faustus, a learned and well-thought-of man, who came from nothing, sells his soul to the devil for 24 years of basically whatever he wants. The trouble is, he already had pretty much whatever he wanted before the deal. He was wealthy, attractive and brilliant. He had the world at his feet so to speak.
But, like many who have everything, he wanted more and the devil was more than willing to bargain with whatever he desired for his soul eternal. The caveat, of course, being that he must also corrupt others along the way, but Faustus hardly seems to mind that addendum."
